Continuing Professional Education with the help of epi
According to Art. 1(c) of our Code of Conduct it is one of the obligations for each member to keep their professional knowledge up to date. There are many opportunities to do so and next to many commercial providers also epi has a broad offer of educational events targeted to our members: the European Patent Attorneys.
In this context, epi-learning.org plays a key role as epi’s central platform for delivering and continuously expanding these educational activities.
When epi’s online learning portal epi-learning.org was first launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, it mainly served as a practical solution to maintain educational activities in an online environment. From the outset, however, the platform was intended not only for continuing professional education for epi members, but also for epi students and EQE (and later EPAC) candidates.
Over the past years, epi-learning.org has developed significantly. Today, the platform hosts a wide range of educational formats, including webinars, recordings, and learning materials, covering an increasingly broad spectrum of topics relevant to the European patent profession. The portal also integrates the podcast series “Insight epi”, which provides regular updates and discussions on key developments, including UPC case law and EQE-related topics.
As a result, epi-learning.org now brings together hundreds of hours of video, audio and other learning resources. These materials are accessible in different ways: some content, such as podcasts, is freely available without login, while recordings of attended events can be revisited by registered users. In addition, selected recordings are made available more broadly, providing an accessible way for members to fulfil their continuing professional education requirements.
The recent relaunch of epi-learning.org reflects this substantial growth. Rather than focusing solely on visual redesign, the main objective was to improve usability and accessibility. Learning materials are now organised more clearly into categories, allowing users to navigate more easily and find relevant content more efficiently.
A particular emphasis has been placed on improving orientation within the platform. With the increasing number of courses and formats, enhanced structure and navigation have become essential. The relaunch therefore provides a more intuitive and user-friendly learning environment that supports both targeted learning and broader exploration of available content.
Further development of the platform is already envisaged. Among other improvements, it is planned that all epi members will automatically receive access to epi-learning.org, thereby making educational resources more directly available across the profession. Additional enhancements, including improved search functionalities, are also expected in the near future.
epi-learning.org will continue to evolve alongside epi’s educational activities, supporting members and students in maintaining and developing their professional knowledge in a flexible and accessible way.
